While Sheffield is by far the best place to spend three or four years studying Physics (I may be biased), you can't beat the experience of studying abroad. All of our students currently enrolled on our 4-year Physics, Physics and Astronomy, or Theoretical Physics MSc degrees who achieve a 2:1 or higher in their first year are eligible to spend their third year studying abroad. We have partnerships with universities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United States. I am the study abroad advisor for students enrolled on our Physics and Astronomy course, so please come speak to me if you're interested in spending a year abroad.
As an astronomy group, we're keen to hear from enthusiastic students with a quantitative background who may be interested in studying toward a PhD at The University of Sheffield. Our research spans a diverse range of fields, ranging from young massive stars, white dwarfs, cataclysmic variables, simulations of stellar clusters, galaxies and supermassive black holes, instrument development, and more! As postgraduate tutor within the astronomy group, I organise the recruitment of new students, and am responsible for the welfare of our current graduate students.
